6 tricks to fight the slow internet

The computer has long been an important part of everyday life. Nothing is more frustrating than a slow computer, especially if you are in the middle of an important and urgent task. When the pages load slowly, crash or do not open at all, you’re thinking of cutting everything down just to avoid wasting your nerves.

You should not give up. There are several steps you can take to speed up your Internet speed and even on your computer. If you make some of them or even all you will surely feel a positive difference.

  1. Put the router in the best place

Depending on the size of your home, the location of the router plays an important role. If you live in a large home with many rooms, putting the router in the center will help spread the signal much better than if you put it in a corner in the bedroom.

Sometimes we have to prefer one part of the house to another depending on the architectural distribution. Then it’s best to choose the one that works more often with a computer. When this is not enough, put an extender

 Wi-Fi Extender

The height of the router is also important. It should not be too low to the ground. But it should not be too high. Microwaves interfere with the signal from the router. It is not good to be at a height with baby phones or cordless phones. An upward-facing antenna distributes the signal horizontally better, and an antenna directed sideways distributes it vertically.

  1. Select the correct Wi-Fi channel.

Wi-Fi networks use 14 channels with a total bandwidth of 2.4 GHz. Each channel has a frequency of around 2420 MHz except the 14th, which is a little more. When the channels overlap with each other, they can cause interference that negatively affects the performance of your wireless network. Channels 1, 6 and 11 are preferred because they do not overlap. Instead of just using these suggested channels, you can find out which channels are best for your home with the use of some free programs.

If you have an Android phone, the Wifi Analyzer app will easily and quickly find the best channel. For people using Apple products, there’s a built-in feature called Wireless Diagnostics that defines the least loaded channels. Windows users can use programs such as inSSIDer, Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector, or WifiinfoView to identify the best channel for your internet connection.

  1. Use wired instead of wireless

Though the wireless connection is convenient and already has it almost anywhere, there is nothing better for your performance than the wired LAN connection. This saves you from troubleshooting, location, and even security issues.

Make sure you have a Cat-6 cable or a new version for maximum performance. Naturally, the smartphone and tablet cannot bind to the home LAN, but the desktop PC and even the portable will get the best LAN connection.

  1. Clean up your browser’s cache memory more often.

In addition to the hardware of your computer, software and software play an important role in speed and productivity. If you surf for a long time without clearing the history and cache of the browser’s memory, it will slow down the speed of your computer.

Depending on the browser you are using, you will easily find information about its „cleaning“. You do not have to delete everything (saved passwords and other data may remain). It is enough to delete cache memory, browsing history and cookies.

  1. Organize the strat-up programs, folders, and files.

After several years of continuous use, you may find that your computer has accumulated large amounts of unnecessary files and junk. This may negatively affect the performance of all the programs your computer is trying to run. Organizing and managing these unnecessary files is a key step in resolving problems, especially on older devices.

Unnecessary programs greatly reduce the performance of any computer. One of the first steps here is to uninstall unnecessary programs, for those you are not familiar with first checking on the Internet, may be important system applications.

Delete the content you no longer need (movies, serials, books, photos, etc.) from the entire hard drive.

Consider uploading files that you do not want to split forever in a cloud system.

  1. Restart the router.

Like the phone, computer, tablet, TV, etc., and the router, the technology is not perfect. To reboot it properly, disconnect it for at least a minute. On the other hand, if you leave it off at night, it will take a new IP address that can also improve your connection. Simply connect it back in the morning and wait a minute or two for it to start properly.
